"We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time."

-T.S Eliot

Everyone asks us how we are doing and we generally put on an image of “put together” perfection because we do not want to appear as though we don’t have our lives together.

In this culture where hustling is a status quo, why would anyone show their underbelly?

My approach to therapy is simple; it is to allow for you to lead the sessions and paint the room with your experience of an event while I assist in reframing the lens in which you are viewing your story. Oftentimes we get stuck in the weeds of our subplots and are unable to view the key details that make up the theme in our lives. You may find yourself making the same mistakes with different people and feel a sense of shame, almost as if it is you who is unworthy.

Shame is a tool we use to discipline ourselves, like a ruler used to slap our hand when we touch something that isn’t ours. The lesson is learned that we will never repeat the behavior and also that we must fear the metaphorical “ruler”. In most societies, it can have ramifications on our behaviors with others and with ourselves. I have seen how often it presents itself in sessions and I hope to combat some of the stigmas surrounding your struggles.

It is human nature to want belong, to feel like we are connecting with others and feel in harmony with them. Shame can sometimes get in the way of that… there can also be past learn behaviors and beliefs that are getting us stuck feeling anxious, depressed, or unhappy in our relationships. With this notion, I help children, teens and adults have the life story they yearn.

ARE YOU READY TO FIND SOLUTIONS?

I understand that certain cultures will sense an eye roll coming when you bring up the topic of talk therapy. As a Cuban-born American I can empathize with the stigma that therapy has on Caribbean cultures, as well as for most minorities.

In spite of the manners in which your family’s generation conducted things, don’t you think it’s time to reinvent a wheel that has not turned in recent years?

THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

I try to incorporate several modalities into my practice to ensure that you are getting a session that is tailored for your particular needs. I find that working from a model allows me the ability to operate from a foundational approach and in this way, we can utilize strategies that have been proven to create results in clients.

Some of the models that I tend to gravitate toward are:

  1. Narrative Therapy: This is a model that focuses on the client’s worldview, with the focus of changing how we see our lives and behaviors.

  2. Structural Therapy: This is an evidence based model to help with behavioral issues with children and teens, parenting issues and family dynamic concerns.

  3. Solution Focused Therapy: This is a model that focuses on finding the strengths and resources of the client.

  4. The Gottman Method: This is a great research based model to help couples obtain practical tools to decrease conflict, improve connection, and feel closer again.

  5. EFT Tapping: This is a great model to assist with Anxiety, Depression, PTSD and trauma responses.

  6. Active Parenting: I am certified in Active Parenting which is an evidence based parenting program, which has allowed me the ability to assist in helping families rebuild their relationships.

Understanding How to Manage Anxiety.

A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT ME

I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults, in areas of behavioral issues, anxiety/depression, trauma, and relationship issues for couples and families.  I am open to working from both a secular or faith-based approach depending on my client’s preference. An objective that I hold in therapy settings is to allow for the client to lead the sessions and paint the room with their experience of an event while I assist in reframing the lens in which they are viewing their story.

I am a graduate from Nova Southeastern University, where I received my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I also completed my undergraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Central Florida, Go Knights! I am bilingual in Spanish and English, and can conduct sessions in both languages. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family as well as engaging in travel, my most recent trip being Greece. I can’t recommend hot yoga and HIIT workouts enough.

I look forward to collaborating with you to assist you on your journey to balancing your joy and overall health.
