 TEEN  COUNSELING

  in Plantation, Florida

IS YOUR TEEN WORRYING YOU?

  • Do you worry that your teen might be depressed or anxious?

  • Are you concerned about your teen’s academic performance?

  • Do you notice that your teen is avoiding being social?

  • Do you think your teen has an anger problem?

  • Are you worried that your teen is engaging in destructive behaviors (drug or alcohol use, self-harm)?

  • Has your teen gone through a major change and may not be adjusting well?

Parenting your child through their emotional issues used to be easier when they were tiny. Their needs were simpler. When they were hungry, they cried and you fed them. When thunder scared them, you soothed them and made them feel safe.

Entering adolescence is an exciting and difficult time for many teens…. and for their parents. Now that your child is a teen, their needs are more complicated. Processing their emotions is more difficult. Emotional concerns may arise, such as anxiety, depression, and mood disorders as well as behavioral concerns.

As a parent, you want the best for your teen, but sometimes it can be hard to know what to do. You want to connect with their emotions, help them with their outbursts or simply have a nice conversation with them, but you are met with resistance. All you want is to find the right tools and strategies to help them.

You just want to know what is going on.

You think something has happened, but they won’t let you in. Or maybe things have changed at home. Perhaps your family has experienced a divorce or relocation, and you want to know how they are doing so you can help them through this transition.

Adolescence is challenging time for many reasons. It is the time that adolescents create their identity and begin to see the world in an entirely different way than they did when they were children.

It is a crucial time to begin their launch into adulthood.

In today’s world, with social media and pop culture so hyper-focused on image, sex, drugs, and violence, it is scary as a parent to see your children grow with the continual bombardment of concerning messages. You want to help them enter into adulthood in a healthy way.

Did you know that during adolescence your child will develop their brain the most since being infants? More specifically, your teen will experience the largest growth of the frontal lobe from adolescence until early adulthood. The frontal lobe is responsible for problem solving, spontaneity, initiation, judgment, impulse control, and social and sexual behavior.

Scary, right?

Helping your teen develop healthy habits as they grow until adulthood and independence doesn’t have to be a lonely feeling. At Infinite Therapeutic Services, we are here to help you and your teen through this transition in a safe, comfortable and collaborative environment.

Your teen is not alone: According to NAMI, the National Alliance of Mental Illness, statistics show that 1 in 5 teens experiences mental health issues. NAMI also reports that 10% of adolescents experience behavioral issues.

The good news, however, is that with the help of a compassionate, experienced teen therapist, you may be able to find the help your teen needs to overcome their emotional or behavioral issues.

At Infinite Therapeutic Services, we have a team of dedicated counselors trained in evidence-based and strength-based approaches to help reduce emotional and behavioral issues in teens.

We collectively believe that therapy is a collaborative process to help teens and their parents find solutions in a safe and confidential environment.

Teen can be a way for your teen to learn how to manage their emotions, enhance behaviors, make better choices, improve communication and increase motivation to get responsibilities accomplished.

Our approach is one of focusing on your teen’s strengths. Counseling for adolescents can also improve the family dynamic as a whole. When working individually with a teen, a clear policy of what will be communicated between the adolescent and the parent will be agreed upon during our first meeting.

On some occasions, approaching the concern of your teen as a family might be a better fit. As family therapists, our approach is collaborative so that the changes can be maintained at home without the need for long-term therapeutic services. How do I know if my teen needs testing or counseling?

ln the initial phone call with our dedicated assistant, she will explore your concerns with you and recommend whether you might benefit from testing or counseling.

Is teen counseling only for my child or for the whole family?

During the evaluation process, your therapist will provide recommendations. At times, teenagers benefit from individual counseling; other times, the presenting issues are better treated through family counseling or a combination of both. Your therapist will provide recommendations as needed during the evaluation process.

How will I know what is going on with my teen in counseling?

While your therapist will be in contact with the parent, teens are entitled to confidentiality by law just like an adult with these exceptions: (1) The teen is at risk of suicide, (2) The teen is at risk of homicide, (3) The teen discloses that they have experienced abuse or neglect by an adult. We want to make your teen feel safe and comfortable throughout this process.

Is teen counseling expensive?

At Infinite Therapeutic Services, we are proud to offer personalized and unique services at different price points to help meet the needs of many. Our dedicated assistant will match you with the right teen therapist, budget and availability.
